The beaches in Conil as well as the areas around the river are delightful for taking walks. Crossing the river you can get to the beach “El Palmar” by Castilnovo, and you can continue even until Zahora (Barbate) and the Trafalgar Lighthouse. In the other direction, passing the port, there is a forestry area with very nice little beaches (“calas”), although getting to them is a little harder.
What to visit:
In a day trip by car you can go to Seville, although even closer we find the cities of Cadiz and Jerez, both very nice to visit. Also nearby there are other beautiful small towns and points of interest such as Tarifa (one of the best known towns in Europe for surfing), Gibraltar, Baelo Claudia (Roman ruins) and the typical andalusian white towns of Vejer and Medina Sidonia.
A little farther we find Grazalema’s nature park, famous for its incredible beauty. Bike enthusiasts will be able to enjoy rides around the cliffs in Roche.
Also in a day trip, you can visit the Moroccan city of Tangier, hopping on a ferry boat in Tarifa-you will need your passport-, or you can go for cetacean and whale watching in the Estrecho.
Weather in Conil is generally bright and sunny, although sometimes we can find strong winds. During the winter it is never too cold, but it is quiet humid. During the summer, while the sun can be very strong, it isn’t usually too hot, thanks to the ocean breeze. But be careful with sunburn!
Places to eat:
There is a wide variety of culinary offerings in Conil. The most common dishes are “tapas” and fried fish, and you will find them in typical Spanish bars. There are two very good restaurants in the Fontanilla Beach, and also on the way to the Lighthouse. In La Muela de Vejer there is an Italian Pizzeria, and a quite famous restaurant serving grilled meats. The Moroccan restaurant in the center of Vejer is also worth visiting; it is located in a beautiful place, and has very nice ambiance.
It is always better to make reservations in all of these restaurants, but absolutely necessary during the summer.
You can also find “chiringuitos” in the beach; these are outdoors bar/restaurants, very laid back. They are open from mid June until mid September. Also, you can buy Spanish sandwiches in many of the stores in town.
In the house you will find brochures and cards from restaurants as well as delivery options.
